The gestation of children through surrogacy is prohibited in Spain and, therefore, the family traveled to the United States to achieve Aless’s wish.
The British magazine Hello!, the actress said that her son decided to preserve sperm samples after discovering the disease and starting chemotherapy, which affects fertility. In his last days, Aless revealed to his parents his desire to have a daughter after death. “[O processo começou] on the day my son went to heaven,” Ana told the publication.
The young man had a relationship while he was sick, but Ana Obregón decided to keep the mother’s biological identity a secret, only revealing that a donation of genetic material and a surrogate were used. She even said that only her husband, Alessandro Lequio, and two sisters, Celia and Amalia, knew about the plans.
Despite the baby being registered as her adopted daughter, Ana reiterates: “This girl is not my daughter, but my granddaughter. She is Aless’s daughter and when she grows up I will tell her what a hero her father was so she knows who he was and how proud she should be of him.”
