Spanish law enforcement officers were looking for an underground marijuana plantation, but found an illegal crypto farm

A curious incident occurred in the Spanish city of Santiponce. Local law enforcers suspected that someone was growing marijuana in the stable building. However, after a preliminary investigation, the police concluded that it was not about a marijuana plantation after all. And indeed: there was a crypto-farm inside.

The only reason why the “enterprise” attracted the attention of the police was the illegal connection to the city’s electricity grid. Apparently, less electricity would be required to maintain a marijuana plantation, so law enforcement officers decided that a mining farm was still located on the premises.

As it turned out, the farm consisted of 21 ASIC systems and a number of video cards from the GeForce RTX 30 family, produced mainly by EVGA. Approximately 50,000 euros worth of equipment was seized. It is believed that it brought income to crypto miners in the amount of about 2500 euros per month.
