The Spanish electric network operator re Network.mc said on Tuesday (29) that his preliminary assessment ruled out a cyber attack as the cause of the national energy fall that reached most of the Spain and Portugal on Monday (28).
To the Lights went out in most of the two countries at 12:33 pm local time, in what was the worst blackout ever recorded on the Iberian Peninsula. The power supply was only resumed at night.
Ree’s head of operations, Eduardo Prieto, said at a press conference that the electrical system was affected by a dramatic loss in power generation in the southwest from Spainwhich caused instability in the system and led to its disconnection from the French network.
He said it was quite possible that the affected generation was solar, but it was too early to say for sure.
Prieto said the system is now stable and working normally.
