Smith resigned from the Justice Department as the president-elect prepares to return to the White House in less than ten days. Smith’s resignation came after Justice Department officials filed a request with U.S. District Judge Eileen Cannon on Saturday afternoon, urging her not to extend an injunction she issued last week temporarily blocking the release of Smith’s final report on the Trump case.
