Spencer: the Italian trailer of the highly anticipated film with Kristen Stewart about Lady Diana

Diana dancing, Diana running, Diana trying to loosen the pearl necklace that seems to tighten her throat as if it were a leash. These are the most intense frames of the first Italian trailer of Spencer, the highly anticipated film by Pablo Larraín presented in competition at the last Venice Film Festival and dedicated to the controversial character of Lady Diana, played by Kristen Stewart, according to many in the smell of his first Oscar nomination. The film, which will arrive in Italian cinemas on 20 January 2022 with 01 Distribution, focuses, as often happens in the biopics directed by Larraín, on a precise moment in the life of the princess, that is the Christmas weekend spent at the Sandringham residence before Diana decided to end her marriage to Carlo.

The film, a story of ghosts, muffled screams and melancholy looks, dwells on the inner conflict experienced by the princess, a prisoner, in those three days at Sandringham, of her greatest fears. Fears that, due to her role, she has always been accustomed to suffocate and repress in order not to offend the sensibility of the royal etiquette that required her to remain firm, immobile, unassailable in her silence and in the smiles bestowed on the press, hoping to convince her that everything it was okay even if it wasn’t. Judging by the trailer and reviews posted in America, it’s clear that Spencer both an intimate and intimate film who tries, in an almost fabulous way, to enter Diana’s head by describing the storm of emotions that gripped her in that very delicate phase of her life: remain faithful to the Crown or follow her heart and herself?

Kristen Stewart in Spencer

Immortalized in a wonderful branded wardrobe Chanel, a choice little appreciated by the biographers and the very experts of the Windsors, Stewart takes on the burden of playing Diana, a feat that very few actresses have succeeded in like Emma Corrin who played her in the fourth season of The Crown, giving away one of the most intense roles of her career, definitively breaking away from the blockbuster queen label to confirm how much her talent has always been too underestimated. The film, one of the most anticipated of 2022, also sees in the cast Timothy Spall as Major Alistar Gregory; Sally Hawkins in that of Diana Maggie’s personal maid; Jack Farthing in that of Prince Charles and Stella Gonet in that of Queen Elizabeth.
