In Russia, work has begun under the Sphere program, which involves the development and creation of new multi-satellite constellations for communication and remote sensing of the Earth from space. The TASS news agency was informed about this by the executive director of Roscosmos, Alexander Bloshenko.
“Chief executives in key areas are already working. In particular, the design of devices for the creation of new multi-satellite communication constellations for the provision of Internet of Things services “Marathon” and broadband access “Skif” is underway, – said Bloshenko.
Earlier it became known that the Sphere program will include ten orbital groups: Yamal, Smotr, Express-RV, Express, Skif, Marathon, as well as Sfera-MKA, Sphere-SMKA “,” Sphere-X “and” Sphere-XLP “. According to Alexander Bloshenko, issues with budget financing and the conclusion of contracts are now being resolved. Terms of reference have already been prepared, and the first stage of work has been determined. The Sfera satellites are expected to be the first payload of the Amur reusable methane-powered rocket, which is to be completed in the third quarter of this year.
Back in June 2018, during a direct line, Vladimir Putin said that Russia intends to launch more than 600 communication and remote sensing satellites. It is assumed that the “Sphere” will increase the coverage of the Earth by presidential, government and special communications by 25% (up to 93%).
