“Spider-Man” producer says she didn’t know Zendaya: “I felt stupid”

Amy Pascal, co-producer of the films “Spider man” alongside Kevin Feige, the current president of Marvel, confessed that Neither of them knew Zendaya when they chose the actress for the role of MJ in the films.

“To be honest, neither Kevin Feige nor I knew who she was,” Amy Pascal said in an interview with Voguewhen recalling Zendaya's audition for the role in 2016, when she was 19 years old.

“She wasn't wearing makeup and was dressed like a normal girl, and we were like, 'Oh my God, she's amazing. She has to be in the film'. And then we found out that she was a totally famous person, and I felt really stupid.”

It was during the filming of the “Spider-Man” films that Zendaya and Tom Holland (who plays the superhero) became romantically involved and started dating.

At this time, Zendaya was already known in Hollywood for her roles in Disney products, mainly in the series “Shake It Up”, which she starred in alongside Bella Thorne between 2010 and 2013.
