SPIEGEL: Germany intercepts radio communications between Russians discussing Butsa killings

LAST UPDATE: 14:20

The German intelligence service stole radio messages from Russian military sources, citing the killing of civilians in the Ukrainian city of Butsa, the German news magazine Der Spiegel reported today.

According to Der Spiegel, the agency presented its findings to parliament yesterday, Wednesday. The magazine does not cite a source for this information.

According to Der Spiegel, the wireless messages correspond to known deaths. In one of the interceptions, a soldier reported that he shot someone who was riding a bicycle. A corpse has been photographed lying next to a bicycle.

Spiegel adds that there are additional recordings, the natural origin of which is more difficult to determine, which means, as he reports, that similar incidents have occurred in other Ukrainian cities.

The Ukrainian government has accused Russia of genocide and war crimes. The Kremlin said yesterday, Tuesday, that Western allegations that Russian forces had executed civilians in Bhutan were “monstrous forgery” aimed at discrediting the Russian military and justifying new Western sanctions.

Russia describes the executions of civilians as a cynical ploy by Ukraine and its Western backers, which Moscow says have been seized by discriminatory anti-Russian paranoia.

A German government spokesman declined to comment on Der Spiegel.

Berlin has satellite imagery indications that Russians are involved in the killings

The German government has indications that Russia is involved in the killing of civilians in the Ukrainian city of Butsa based on satellite images, a source in the German security forces said today.

The German news magazine Der Spiegel reported that the intelligence service had intercepted radio messages from Russian military sources, which referred to the killing of civilians in Boutsa.

“It is true that the federal government has indications of crimes committed by Russians in Butsa,” the source said. “However, these findings about Boutsa concern satellite images. The wireless messages can not be clearly identified as concerning Boutsa.”

Source not extended. He said there was no indication that there was an order from the general staff of the Russian armed forces regarding Butsa.

Butsa, 37 km northwest of Kiev, had been occupied by Russian troops for more than a month after their February 24 invasion of Ukraine. Local officials say more than 300 people have been killed by Russian forces in Butsa alone and about 50 have been executed. Moscow denies the allegations.

Spiegel also reported that there are additional recordings, the natural origin of which is more difficult to determine, which means, as the magazine reports, that similar incidents have occurred in other Ukrainian cities.

The German Federal Bureau of Investigation (BND) has refused to comment on the case.
