An inspection operation caught the use of red dye to disguise the appearance of spoiled meat in commercial establishments in Santa Catarina.
The action, which took place between last Monday (24) and last Wednesday (26), seized several irregularities in 17 supermarkets, butchers and restaurants in the cities of Seara and Xavantina, in the west of the state.
The use of dye to simulate the appearance of fresh meat was one of the most serious points identified by the inspection.
See below:
In addition to the “makeup” meat with dye, the inspection found a variety of other inappropriate products for consumption:
- Overdue dairy products: cheese, children’s yogurts and expired ice creams for over a year were still for sale;
- Milky Milks and Mixtures: Products overdue and stored under inadequate conditions;
- Eggs: exposed to the sun, accelerating deterioration;
- Vegetables: In advanced state of decomposition, with mold and visible fungi.
The inspection, which was attended by various agencies, seized products inappropriate for consumption and the health surveillance issued administrative assessments, granting deadlines for regularization.
Establishments that do not fit may be banned, but their name has not been disclosed.
The Public Prosecution Service of Santa Catarina (MPSC) reported that it will adopt measures to hold civil and criminally responsible, based on the crime against consumer relations.
The operation is part of the MPSC Animal Products Evaluation Program (POA), which aims to ensure the food security of the population.
