Turkey and other countries have yet to talk to Russia to help end the war in Ukraine, the Turkish president’s spokesman said on Sunday, adding that Kyiv needed more support to defend itself, Reuters reported.
“If everyone burns the bridges with Russia, then who will talk to them at the end of the day,” Ibrahim Kalin told the Doha International Forum.
“The Ukrainians must be supported by all possible means so that they can defend themselves, but the Russian side must be heard, one way or another.”
Turkey supports the unity and national sovereignty of Ukraine, the Turkish president’s spokesman also told Al Jazeera television.
Kalin told Qatari TV that the war in Ukraine was not justified, but that channels of communication with Russia should remain open.
“Turkey is trying to end the war in Ukraine through dialogue with Moscow and Kyiv,” he said.
