The team behind the popular music streaming service Spotify has decided to suspend its operations in Russia. This was reported by the Swedish edition of Expressen, citing the press service of Spotify.

Earlier, the paid Premium subscription ceased to operate in Russia. For users who have paid for it, the Premium action will remain until the next debit, if the payment fails, the subscription will be canceled. At the same time, registration of new Premium accounts is also suspended.
Now we are talking about the complete cessation of the service in Russia, including free accounts. Spotify cited a recent law in Russia that “imposes additional restrictions on access to information, eliminates freedom of expression and criminalizes certain types of news” as the reason. The press release explains:
This jeopardizes the safety of our staff and possibly our listeners. After carefully considering the options available, based on the current circumstances, we have come to the difficult decision to completely suspend the service in Russia.”
