Sputnik-V: Will be tested in combination with AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna vaccines

Memorandum of cooperation with the National Research Center of Epidemiology and Microbiology “N. Gamalei “signed the National Institute of Infectious Diseases” Lazzaro Spalantsani “, based in Rome. The director of the Italian institute, Francesco Vagia, told reporters that in the framework of this cooperation, investigations will be carried out into the Sputnik-V.

Scientific research in relation to Russian coronavirus vaccine, as well as investigations into its combination with other preparations, will begin as soon as the Italian Medicines Agency (Aifa) approves the relevant research protocol, Vagia said, adding that as soon as the bureaucratic procedures are completed, Russian scientists will arrive in Italy.

According to the APE-MPE response from Italy, he also stated that he had the assurance of Aifa of his interest in supporting this investigation, which will study the combination of the Russian Sputnik-V vaccine with those of AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Moderna, while 600 volunteers will participate in the clinical trials that will take place.

“There will be four groups of 150 volunteers and we will study the effect of the vaccination with two different vaccines, the Sputnik-V vaccine and the AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Moderna vaccines.” pointed out the Italian professor.

Vaya said the main goal of the research is to study the effect of the Russian vaccine on various coronavirus mutations. “Basically, we are talking about well-known executives at the moment, whom we have isolated. “And our research must give a scientific answer to the so-called challengers, in order to show the effectiveness of the vaccines,” he added.

Finally, he stressed that after 10 days his Russian colleagues will arrive in Italy and that the Institute has ordered 600 doses of vaccine required to conduct the research.
