Square Enix is bringing one of its games to The Sandbox metaverse

Japanese developer Square Enix plans to bring one of its games into the metaverse, promising users the ability to create a world and invent stories.

One of the largest gaming companies in the country has announced a partnership with The Sandbox platform. The company will bring one of its popular games called Dungeon Siege to the metaverse. The collaboration will involve integrating the game into the virtual world in two ways.

First. Square Enix will create a virtual piece of land in the metaverse where players can, as the company says, create their own stories within the game. In this way, the company promises to give users the opportunity to acquire a new, unique experience.

Second. The company will provide players with the ability to create their own in-game items using the built-in Voxedit and Game Marker tools. This will allow users to build worlds with any visual style and functionality. Such integration will be somewhat reminiscent of Minecraft, where players have the ability to change the environment and come up with quests.

Square Enix Business Development Director Hideaki Uehara stated that bringing their game to the metaverse would “revive the franchise”.

This will be the first experience of the Japanese company with the metaverses. In early January, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda said that the company plans to put “maximum focus” on blockchain and NFT-enabled game development.
