'Squid Game' star given suspended prison sentence for sexual assault

South Korean actor Yong-soo, one of the stars of the TV series “Squid Game”, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman in 2017, prosecutors told AFP today. In 2022, the 79-year-old actor became the first South Korean to win a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of a vulnerable elderly man in Netflix's hit dystopian thriller. Oh Yong-soo was sentenced to eight months in prison suspended for two years and required to attend 40 hours of sexual violence prevention training, the Suwon district prosecutor's office in the southern suburbs of Seoul said. Authorities began investigating him in 2022 after a 2022 complaint that he had twice sexually assaulted an unnamed woman five years earlier. More than 100 million people have watched “Squid Game” on Netflix since it began airing in 2021, and it remains one of the most popular series on the platform.
