SSDs have finally bypassed HDDs. 333 million solid state drives shipped last year

Trendfocus analysts have estimated the solid state drive market in 2020. According to their data, just over the past year, 333.12 million SSDs were shipped, and this is 20.8% more than in 2019.

The total volume grew even more: by 50.4%, to 207.39 EB. For comparison, HDD shipments fell by 18%, to 258.81 million units, and their total volume increased by only 13%, to 1018 EB. So last year, solid state drive sales finally surpassed HDDs in quantitative terms.

You can also calculate that the average SSD capacity is about 670 GB, and the HDD is about 4 TB. In the SSD market, the leaders among manufacturers are Samsung (26.1%) and WD (20.3%). For other major market players, the indicator is within 10% or less.
