In a decree published in the Official Gazette of the State of São Paulo in this Wednesday's edition (21), the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) announced the promotion of three colonels and dismissed Colonel José Alexander de Albuquerque Freixo.
The changes take place amid the public security crisis faced by the State Government, which sees the actions of the Military Police reach, in the Baixada Santista region alone, the number of 54 people killed in clashes this year, 31 of which were killed by Operation Summer alone.
By note, the SSP informed that the movements have been taking place since the beginning of the year and that they were planned.
In addition to the promotions and dismissal of the deputy commander of the PM, another 33 colonels were transferred to various units of the corporation.
The ministry also added justifications for the changes saying that “a series of promotions based on merit and routine movements were carried out with the Civil, Military and Technical-Scientific police of the State”. And he concluded by saying that his objective is to constantly improve police performance and reinforce the safety of the entire population.
A CNN also questioned the State Government and the Military Police about the references in the text and awaits a response.
