The network of interventions that have been developed at the institutional level and the financial tools with which the Ministry of Interior assists the local government and the associations of Attica municipalities for the implementation of important prevention projects in the context of fire protection, said Deputy Minister of Interior Stelios , during the special meeting of the board of directors of the Association for the Protection and Development of Ymittos (SPAY).
The meeting took place in the hall of the municipal council of the municipality of Elliniko – Argyroupolis, under the chairman of the association and mayor of Elliniko – Argyroupolis, Giannis Konstantatos, with the participation of the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Christos Stylianouridis and Yifos Periforgos Dim.
Mr. Petsas referred to the recent decisions of regular financing for this year’s firefighting period of the municipalities of the whole country and the associations of municipalities of Attica – a total of 18.4 – which was given earlier than in previous years.
As Mr. Petsas noted, from the amount of 1.49 million euros that was given in total to the associations of municipalities of Attica, the S.P.A.Y. was subsidized by the Ministry of Interior with 300,000 euros to cover fire protection actions, such as the implementation of maintenance and prevention measures, the supply of equipment, the lease of vehicles and the strengthening of voluntary actions. At the same time, he underlined the importance of the continuous upgrade of projects and infrastructure at the local level, noting the inclusion in the “Antonis Tritsis” program of two important proposals of the SPAY, totaling 11 million euros. Specifically, these are:
* the proposal in the axis “Urban Revitalization” (AT06) – amounting to 5.7 million euros – for “shielding and promotion actions” of Hymettus, which includes: the supply and installation of new observatories, the upgrading of existing, new tanks the supply of fifteen fire trucks and two aquifers, the supply of firefighting equipment for volunteer firefighting teams, as well as clothing and personal protective equipment
* the financing of information actions to raise public awareness
* the proposal in the axis “Smart Cities” (AT08) – amounting to 4.8 million euros – for the implementation of digital protection actions with modern means.
As he stressed, the project of “Electricity” (AT12) – amounting to 1.7 million euros – for the supply of electric vehicles and charging stations in the eleven neighboring municipalities around Ymittos is expected to follow. He also mentioned the importance of appropriate synergies with other financial instruments – including the prevention projects that will be implemented in Hymettus, through the Recovery Fund – but also the actions that have been undertaken for permanent increase – from 2023 – of the financial file for the Local Government for the coverage of fire protection actions, through the reform of the K.A.P ..
Mr. Petsas did not fail to refer to the two recent institutional initiatives of the Ministry of Interior that were voted by the Greek Parliament, on March 22, 2022: a) the extension of the possibility of direct distribution of credits by the CAP. municipalities in their associations – and for 2022 – to cover only fire protection actions and b) the possibility provided for municipalities, to prevent the risk of fire, to carry out ex-officio cleaning of plots, the owners of which do not show the due diligence in cleaning them.
