St. Petsas: Al. Tsipras is calling for elections to run second now and not third later

“Since yesterday we have seen a stabilization in the cases. The decline in their number that we saw in the previous days did not continue, as they yielded the measures that had been taken in the previous phase, but before the appearance of the Omicron mutation, which seems to start leading to increase “That is why the Prime Minister said that we must be careful for the holiday season and immediately afterwards we may need an adjustment in the measures, on two levels, in telework and in the way we have fun,” Stelios Petsas told ANT1.

As the Deputy Minister of Interior said, “the right message is that we have a new situation, the Omicron mutation is much more contagious, the disease may be milder, as experts say, I personally believe it is the beginning of the end of the pandemic, but we will definitely have to be very careful in the next 2-3 months. ”

Many times Stelios Petsas stated that “the Holidays will be as we are now, there will be no change. What we are discussing is the taking of measures from the new year”.

Answering questions from journalists who took part in the discussion, Stelios Petsas said that “the suggestion of a scientific committee is one thing and the decision of the Prime Minister and the Government is another, especially in an unprecedented situation like this pandemic. The Prime Minister takes the political responsibility and sends the right messages to the society, which has shown a discipline that no one would expect from the Greeks “.

“The pressure on the health system will be related to high transmissibility and not to morbidity and we must all pay attention to this for our behavior in the near future”, the Deputy Minister of Interior pointed out, saying again that “we will not have lockdowns “Lights, no other restrictive measures, except for the measures taken in two directions given by the Prime Minister, teleworking and entertainment”.

Regarding the price increases and the energy crisis, Stelios Petsas said that there may have been an absorption of costs by the companies, but it has started to be passed on to the products, as the companies will no longer “come out”, while the costs for a “The government is doing what it can to keep prices down from the energy crisis and to support households and farmers.”

He added that “the latest ECB estimate states that it is not worried about the long-term effects, but the short-term effects of inflation, which for Greece, with its high economic growth rates and reduced inflationary pressures, is very important”.

Also, Mr. Petsas said that an effort is being made to pay the 250 euro aid to the low-income pensioners during the year, saying that he is optimistic that “we will have the result we all want, to give the money before Christmas”.

Regarding the political scenario and the possibility of early elections, Mr. Petsas said that “there is evidence not for early elections, but for the exhaustion of the four years, such as the Omicron mutation with unpredictable developments. Even when you have an energy crisis that pushes the households do not go to the polls, when you expect strong growth, then you wait for the households to reap it before you go to the polls. “It will not be equal for everyone, but if an unemployed person finds a job, his income increases significantly.”

“Mr. Tsipras is asking for elections, not because he believes that he will come out first, but because he is afraid that he will come out third, due to the rise of KINAL. Mr. Tsipras must leave the micropolitics”, stressed Stelios Petsas.
