Starbucks replaces North America CEO as part of reorganization plan

Starbucks North America CEO Rossann Williams is expected to leave the company.

The move is part of a reorganization of executive positions proposed by interim chairman Howard Schultz.

Sara Trilling, current president of Starbucks in the Asia-Pacific region, will lead the business in North America starting next Tuesday (21), the company said.

Williams started at Starbucks as regional vice president in 2004 and rose to the level of executive vice president. She has been with the company for over 17 years.

Starbucks said another position at the company was offered as a proposal, but that the CEO decided to leave the chain on her own.

Since last year, Williams has been one of the main people of the coffee giant to respond to an expanding union effort among baristas.

In a message to Starbucks employees, Williams thanked them for their efforts during the difficult time.

“Starbucks is a company, a family, a belief system and a tremendous light with a great future,” she said in the message.

Starbucks is still looking for outside candidates for its next CEO, a replacement for Howard Schultz. The company plans to identify its new leader by the fall.
