The State Department was appointed for the Turkish overflights. Asked by an American journalist how much the US is concerned about Turkish overflights over the Greek islands and how these actions affect NATO stability, State Department spokesman Ned Price noted:
“In your first question about Turkish overflights, we encourage all countries to respect the sovereignty of other countries and to use government aircraft with due regard for the safety of civil aircraft. Where there is disagreement over airspace “We call for coordination and discussion, not provocative actions that could lead to fatal accidents. As a matter of principle, we encourage all states to resolve maritime delimitation issues peacefully and in accordance with international law.”
