State Department recommends restraint after Jerusalem incidents

The United States is deeply concerned about the violence in Jerusalem, where at least 152 Palestinians were injured in clashes with Israeli police on Friday, the State Department said.

“We urge all parties to show restraint, to refrain from provocations through action and rhetoric, and to maintain the status quo on the Temple Mount (Haram al-Sharif),” said State Department spokesman Ned Price.

The bloody incidents erupted after a series of attacks in Israel and Israeli attacks in the occupied West Bank.

Islam’s third holiest site, the Temple Square – or Temple Mount as it is called by the Jews – is located in the Old City of East Jerusalem, a Palestinian-occupied area since 1967 by Israel.
