The US State Department today called on Moscow to allow civilians to safely leave Ukrainian cities besieged by the Russian military, adding that powerful military forces were encircling key cities after destroying many vital infrastructure.
“Putin’s military plan to quickly occupy Ukraine has clearly failed. He is resorting to a strategy of depopulating large urban centers to lower the morale of the Ukrainian people, which he will not be able to achieve,” he told State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters.
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that it will open daily humanitarian corridors for Ukrainians who want to take refuge in Russia, at 10:00 Moscow time (09:00 Greek time). He stressed that humanitarian corridors to Russia would be opened without the need for approval from Kyiv. With regard to humanitarian corridors to other destinations, he clarified that an agreement must be reached with the Ukrainian authorities.
