State Duma deputy submitted his proposal to legalize cryptocurrencies in the Russian Federation

The head of the State Duma Committee on Legislation Pavel Krasheninnikov proposed to legalize cryptocurrencies in Russia, regulating their turnover in the same way as the turnover of drugs. In an interview with EAN, the parliamentarian explained that the Russian authorities still hold a contradictory position with regard to digital currencies, but the problem can be solved if digital money is made with limited circulating capacity. Writes about this RBC Crypto.

“We need to be able to carry out legal transactions, to be able to inherit, must be included in joint ownership. Now it doesn’t go anywhere. Let such currencies be of limited circulation, as, for example, happens with narcotic drugs, when somewhere it is possible, somewhere it is impossible, “- explained the deputy of the State Duma.

According to Krasheninnikov, now the government takes the position “we do not want to legalize cryptocurrency, but we want to receive taxes.” The current legislation adopted in relation to cryptocurrencies still does not answer the question of whether trading in cryptocurrency in Russia is considered legal or not, the deputy added.

The Law “On Digital Financial Assets” entered into force on January 1, 2021. The document defines cryptocurrency but prohibits its use in Russia to pay for goods and services. On February 17, the State Duma approved in the first reading a bill on the introduction of income tax or personal income tax for income received from transactions with digital currencies.
