State of Rio de Janeiro has hailstorms this Monday (16)

Rio de Janeiro entered the mobilization stage, this Monday (16), after the record of rains in the city. Some neighborhoods in the capital, according to the Rio Operations Center (COR), registered hailstorms.

Several points in the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro were hit by hail. In addition to the capital, the city of Niterói also recorded the fall of ice in the rain.

After about 15 minutes, the rain stopped and the situation returned to normal. According to Alerta Rio, the centers that worked in the Metropolitan Region moved towards Guanabara Bay. However, they can still cause moderate to heavy rain in the next half hour.

There was no record of rain in the Baixada Fluminense. The city of Petrópolis, which was heavily affected by rains and landslides at the beginning of the year, only forecasts a mild to moderate intensity starting tomorrow, Tuesday (17).

According to COR, there is a risk of high impact occurrence and rains may occasionally become heavy in the coming hours. At the moment, the city hall is working on five occurrences that are still in progress, all of which are pockets of water that formed in the capital’s roads. Most are in the central region of the city.

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) informs that as of this Monday, a mass of cold air will move through the South and may advance to areas of the Center-West and Southeast regions. During the night, according to the institute, it can reach the states of Rondônia and Acre. In Rio de Janeiro, Inmet predicts a minimum of 16 ºC on Tuesday (17) and 14 ºC on Wednesday (18). The maximum can reach up to 22º C, warns meteorologists.
