In a press conference this Wednesday (16), the governor of São Paulo announced that the elderly over 80 years old residing in the state will be able to take a fourth dose of the vaccine against Covid-19 from Monday, the 21st. March. To receive the new stage of immunization, the person must have received their third dose at least four months ago.
According to the agency, about 900,000 elderly people are able to receive the fourth dose. Doses of immunizers from all manufacturers available on the state government’s public network may be applied.
Previously, only the immunosuppressed were part of the group able to receive the new round of vaccines.
According to the general coordinator of the State Immunization Program (PEI), Regiane de Paula, the decision was made because 90% of the population eligible for vaccination against Covid-19 (above five years of age) in the state has already been immunized. .
The government also disclosed that 31% of beds in Intensive Care Units (ICUs) in the state of São Paulo are currently occupied.
