In an interview with CNN this Thursday (12), the Secretary of Finance of São Paulo, Felipe Salto, said that, due to the ICMS freeze, “the states are losing, according to Consefaz calculations, something like R$ 37 billion”.
This Thursday, the finance secretaries of the states discussed alternatives for the price of fuel with the president of the Federal Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG).
Salto also commented on a possible alternative to minimize the impacts on consumers.
According to the secretary, all the money from the dividends paid by Petrobras to the Union – the largest shareholder of the state-owned company – must be deposited in a “kind of fund” and used to transfer this amount to people who suffer most from the rise in fuel prices. It would be an efficient measure and would not harm the fiscal balance of the states”.
Finally, the secretary mentioned that states are complying with legislation that established the tax freeze. “The states have given their share of contribution, now it is the turn of the Union”.
