The National Forum of Governors requested this Friday morning (21) the incorporation of Coronavc for children and adolescents between 6 and 17 years old in the National Immunization Plan (PNI). Anvisa authorized the use of the immunizer in this public on Thursday (20).
The governor of Pernambuco, Paulo Câmara (PSB), a member of the forum, sent a letter to the Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, on Thursday night asking for urgency in the purchase of Coronavac for application in children and adolescents.
In the letter, Câmara says that “the urgency to complete the vaccination of children and adolescents in Brazil is unavoidable”.
The governor of Piaui, Wellington Dias (PT), president of the forum, said that he also sent a letter to the ministries of Health and the Civil House and that he dealt with the executive secretary of Health, Rodrigo Cruz, about the inclusion of coronavac for children.
“The Ministry of Health will incorporate it into the PNI today. Great news,” Dias said.
Cruz said this Friday morning that the ministry has 6 million doses of Coronavac available and that there are more doses in the hands of states and municipalities that could already be used.
“The Federal District, for example, already has 500,000 doses available and 250,000 children. We are going to talk to states to make distribution fairer so that everyone has opportunities to advance in the immunization of this population”, he said.
Despite the positive signal from the secretary, the government has not yet made official, via the Ministry of Health, the inclusion of Coronavac in the PNI.
Acquisition of 7 million doses
The Butantan Institute, in São Paulo, announced late this Friday morning (21), that the federal government is interested in purchasing 7 million doses of Coronavac.
In a note sent to CNN, the institute says that negotiations are being carried out today and deliveries will take place between this Friday and Monday (24).
Butantan had announced the availability of 15 million doses in total.
