The characteristics that “betray” the identity

The statue at first glance it doesn’t look like most sculptures of Michael Angelo. The great Renaissance artist drew typical religious figures of the Christian tradition, looking as if they had been struck by a heavenly light, in awe-inspiring poses. On the contrary, the statue it shows the god Pana smiling and have upwards one big penis 20 cm.

The fine arts student Hatice Köroglu Çam It supports that the statue although different in mentality, refers to other works of Michael Angelo. As it states the right hand of the statue is almost identical to the right hand in the sculpture of Moses, down to the diamond-shaped veins. The index and middle fingers are spaced the same way, and Pan’s beard resembles Moses’ beard.

He also mentioned that it looks like Michelangelo’s titanium portrait of Davidsince each stands in almost the same posture, shifting his weight slightly on the right leg, which is supported by a marble tree stump.

Michelangelo scholars are more skeptical

Experts combed through the Ludovisi family archives and found documents attributing the statue to Michelangelo, but reports begin to dwindle from the mid-19th century, when the penis is thought to have been removed.

Reports since then have been few and far between and almost disappeared by the early 20th century. THE William E. Wallace, author and editor of eight books on the Renaissance artist, said the sculpture was interesting but “not a great thing.” “The evidence that Michelangelo created it simply does not exist“, he characteristically said.

According to him, if it turns out to belong to the great artistmay reach up to 50 million dollarsNevertheless if it doesn’t belong, the most he can get is $5,000 if sold.

So far, however, the identity of the artist who created the statue remains a mystery, but it raises the interest of scholars, especially since the Villa Ludovisi will go up for auction, along with all the works of art it contains.
