Steam has banned the placement of games using NFT and cryptocurrencies on the platform

The popular PC game distribution platform Steam has updated its rules of use, banning any games using NFT, cryptocurrencies and other blockchain-based technologies.

Changes have been made to the section “Not Suitable for Publishing to the Steam Platform”. Earlier, the section included “hate speech” and non-interactive videos for virtual reality helmets.

“From a Steam management perspective, NFT and cryptocurrencies have value. And such items with real value should not be presented on the platform ”, – noted on Twitter, the leader of the team developing the blockchain game Age of Rust, under the pseudonym Space Pirate.

Space Pirate was the first to notice the change in the Steam Terms of Service. The Age of Rust project has been removed from the platform.

“I am disappointed with the removal of Age of Rust from the Steam platform. But that’s not the point, it’s about the removal of all games on the blockchain. This is a significant hurdle for all developers of such games. I respect their choice, but I believe that NFT and blockchain are the future of game development. That is why I am creating this game “, – wrote leader of the Age of Rust team.

Note that in the past, games on the Steam platform could be paid for with bitcoins. However, back in 2017, the platform’s management decided to refuse to support such payments due to asset volatility and high transaction fees.
