Steam has updated the menu of categories: there was a division into subgenres and not only

While the developers of the Epic Games Store are giving away games for free and are actively developing their platform, Valve’s digital Steam store remains the true king on the PC platform. This store has successfully collected tens of thousands of video games under its roof, providing gamers from all over the world with the opportunity to choose what they really enjoy. The only problem is that the search system on Steam is quite cumbersome, so finding suitable content in such a huge arsenal was quite difficult. Fortunately, now the situation will change, as the store developers have completely redesigned the central drop-down menu.

The first menu item is the “Your Store” button, which provides access to the main Steam page, community recommendations and games that a gamer has recently viewed. This last point is especially helpful. Next comes the item “New and remarkable” – now the gamer will be able to see the bestsellers, popular new items, as well as projects that have not yet been released, but will potentially be popular. A great tool to keep track of releases in the near future – something similar, for example, is implemented in the PS Store. And the third, and most interesting, item is the drop-down menu “Categories” – the developers have focused on it.

Steam has updated the menu of categories: there was a division into subgenres and not only

On the left side of the menu are “Special Sections” – Early Access games, free releases, controller-enabled games, and so on. In the center are “Genres” with sub-items in the form of sub-genres. For example, in “Role-playing games” you can see turn-based role-playing strategies, roguelikes, role-playing games, and so on. That is, a gamer who loves not the entire RPG genre, but only a certain offshoot, gets the opportunity to click on this subgenre to see the releases that are interesting to him. However, if the player is interested in the whole genre of “Strategy”, for example, then you can view all of its representatives at once.

Moreover, on the right there are two more additional points, which also play an important role. Above is the “Themes” item, which breaks down games by setting, not genre. For example, the player can view all projects in the “Anime” style, which is much more convenient than looking for this setting in the categories. And there is also an item “Number of players”, which allows you to divide games by the number of gamers – single, cooperative, multiplayer, and so on. Probably, now it will be much more comfortable to select interesting games.
