Steam May Not Work In China Due To Winter Sale Attacks

Yesterday, many foreign resources circulated reports that the Chinese government has blocked the international version of Steam, leaving only access to the local version of the China Steam store. It turned out that the site was indeed inaccessible to some Chinese gamers for 24 hours. The reason for this is probably a large-scale service failure due to DNS Cache Poisoning attacks, when the DNS server cache is filled with fake data. By the way, the same attacks took place before the Winter Sale on Steam four years ago.

Some users in China report that Steam loads, but very slowly. It can take about three minutes for a website to load. The creator of the SteamDB resource believes that the Chinese authorities have not blocked the international version of Steam, but specifically restrict the operation of the service. In the near future, the situation should be clarified, and then it will become clear whether this was a failure or a deliberate restriction on the part of the Chinese government.
