Stefanos Douskos: He did not give up and was justified

Stefanos Douskos (24 years old)
BRANCH: Athletics – Olympic Gold

He brought us the first gold medal at the Olympics in Tokyo and is the first “gold” Olympian in the country in rowing, winning the title “The Hilton of rowing”. In his greatest success, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, he won the gold medal at the Ionian Skiff with a new Olympic time of 6: 40.45, knocking down that of Mahe Drisdale from the 2016 Summer Olympics for the Olympic Games. In Tokyo, Stefanos was locked up in the Schinias rowing track for two years. This great distinction represents the 4th Medal of Greek rowing in the history of the Olympic Games.

He was born on March 29, 1997 in Ioannina and was involved in sports from an early age. Despite the fact that Ioannina is a city with a tradition (and) in rowing, he initially chose the track. Very quickly he was won over by rowing, with whom he has now developed a lifelong relationship. He started rowing in the lake of Ioannina as a teenager and his hands filled with blood in every training session. Enchanted by rowing, but also by the lake, he did not give up and went on to win medals at world and European level. Sacrificing outings With friends, vacations and personal life, 24-year-old Stefanos Douskos came to eat ice cubes to forget his hunger and reach the weight he needed.

In the races where he participated in the interval, something happened and he lost the medal in the details. But he did not give up. And fortunately, because the justification came and the riots of July 30, 2021 were huge in the land of the Rising Sun.

As he has said, he had thought of leaving them in order to manage to go to university, since he is also a medical student. However, he did not stop, and so he experienced the maximum distinction that an athlete can experience. He won the top spot and has now set a new goal, the Olympic Games in Paris, where he will claim another Medal.

Methodology: Out of the more than 100 nominations collected by “Forbes” – either through applications of the interested parties themselves or through proposals from institutions and competent bodies – the editorial team made a first selection and came up with 50. The order of publication is defined according to the members’ rating (from highest to lowest) and then alphabetically. Conditions for participation in the list “Forbes 30 Under 30 Greece 2022” were met by those born from 1/1/1992 onwards.
