Stella Stays has become the first hotel operator in the Middle East to accept payments in cryptocurrencies from guests.
A hotel brand from the United Arab Emirates has integrated cryptocurrency payments into its e-commerce platform. Customers will be able to make online transactions in over 35 cryptocurrencies directly through the Stella Stays website. When proceeding to checkout, guests can select cryptocurrency as their preferred method and scan the available QR code to complete their booking.
“Accepting payments in cryptocurrency is a pioneering move for the hospitality industry in the Middle East. By being first to market with this offering, we have a first mover advantage,” says Stella Stays CEO and co-founder Mohannad Zikra.
In early 2022, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky addressed to his 405,000 Twitter followers for suggestions on how to improve Airbnb’s booking service. The results showed a high demand for cryptocurrency payments among travelers.
In 2021, the Pavilions Hotels&Resorts luxury hotel group, which owns hotels in Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, including hotels in Madrid, Rome, Lisbon, Bali, Thailand, Mongolia and the Himalayas, announced the start of accepting more than 40 cryptocurrencies for settlement.
