The automakers Stellantis and Renault will partially stop activities at their factories in Spain in the coming days and weeks, as the shortage of semiconductors persists, two union representatives told Reuters on Friday (16).
Two Renault plants in Spain’s Castile and Leon region will be temporarily shut down, one of which will close entirely on Saturday and the other will cancel shifts on several days this week and next, a representative of the CCOO union said.
At Stellantis’ factory in Vigo, in northwest Spain, the company canceled Saturday and Sunday night shifts.
“They stopped production for 15 days in February. Shortages in supply could mean more shutdowns at any time,” a representative for Stellantis workers told Reuters.
A Renault spokesperson was not immediately available for comment. Stellantis did not return phone calls or emails.
In recent months, both companies have stopped production several times in Spain.
