Stellantis said on Monday (30) that it will expand its partnership with Toyota Europe (TME) through the launch of a large commercial van that will have an electric version.
Stellantis will supply the new vehicle for sale in Europe under the Toyota brand, the company said. The van will be produced at Stellantis’ factories in Gliwice, Poland, and Atessa, Italy.
“Planned for mid-2024, the new full-size commercial van marks TME’s first entry into the full-size commercial vehicle segment,” Stellantis added in a statement.
The deal expands the partnership between the two companies and allows for better optimization of the Stellantis unit in Atessa, which currently manufactures large vans for Peugeot, Citröen and Fiat brands.
“This represents an important and complete addition to our light commercial lineup for Toyota’s European customers,” said Stellantis.
Stellantis’ Paris-listed shares were up 1.48% at 10:32 am ET.
Automakers are increasingly making cross-manufacturing deals to cut costs on vans, which are in high demand from growing internet sales.
