The Hollywood community has been battling devastating wildfires. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences extended Oscar voting until Jan. 17 and rescheduled the announcement of nominations for Jan. 23 due to the flames that swept through Los Angeles County.
King isn’t the only celebrity who has suggested Hollywood’s awards season should be paused due to the disaster. Actresses Jean Smart and Patricia Arquette also publicly suggested the idea.
Those who support ceremonies like the Oscars and Grammys going ahead as planned noted that it could bring positivity amid the suffering. King isn’t buying it and posted a response on Friday.
“I hear what you’re saying about the Oscars, and how they’re a celebration of life, and the show must go on, blah-blah-blah, and so on. It all makes a certain amount of sense, but to me it still looks like Nero playing the violin while Rome burns . Or, in this case, wearing fancy clothes while Los Angeles burns,” he said.
