Steve Bannon defends the return of allies in Trump’s possible 2nd term

Trump adviser and ally Steve Bannon outlined what a second term for the Republican would look like on Saturday (29), days before he reports to a Connecticut prison to serve his sentence after being convicted of two misdemeanor counts of contempt of Congress.

Bannon said he would like to see Trump’s former Attorney General Bill Barr and other former officials, including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, investigated if Trump returned to the White House.

Barr was one of several Trump officials who testified before the Democratic-led House Select Committee investigating the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Barr, through video testimony presented at the hearings, told Trump after the election that his claims of fraud were “bullshit.”

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday denied Bannon’s request to keep him out of prison while he appeals his contempt of Congress conviction for defying the House Select Committee investigating January 6.

Bannon made the request to the justices on June 21, after a Washington-based federal appeals court rejected his attempt to delay him from reporting to prison on July 1 — next Monday — as scheduled. Trump is the Republican candidate challenging Democratic President Joe Biden in the November 5 US elections.

Bannon’s sentence could keep him in jail for much of the rest of the presidential race.
