STF asks for explanations, demand for oil and more from the night of December 24

The STF’s request for government explanations on the proposal to request a prescription for children to receive the Covid-19 vaccine and the high demand for oil in 2022 are some of the highlights of this Friday, December 24th, evening.

STF requires explanations

The Federal Supreme Court (STF) gave the government five days to explain the request for a medical prescription for childhood vaccination against Covid-19. Several entities and the National Council of Health Secretaries (Conass) took a stand against minister Marcelo Queiroga’s statement in demanding documentation.

PAHO expresses support for childhood vaccination against Covid-19

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), an arm of the World Health Organization (WHO) on the continent, expressed support for the vaccination of children against Covid-19 in Brazil. PAHO signed a note from the Technical Advisory Board on Immunization at Covid-19, the body that assists the government in these decisions. The document unanimously recommended the vaccination of children aged 5 to 11 years with Pfizer’s immunizing agent.

Ecuador announces mandatory vaccination

Ecuador announced that vaccination against Covid-19 will be mandatory for everyone over 5 years of age. The country is the first in Latin America to impose the measure. The decision came after an increase in the number of cases of the new coronavirus, including the Ômicron variant. Vaccination will not be mandatory for people with pre-existing medical conditions.

Demand for oil may hit record in 2022

A survey by the International Energy Agency predicts that global oil demand will increase by 3.3 million barrels a day next year. This would correspond to the demand record. The agency points out that this increase would be due to the resumption of activities halted by the pandemic.

US to lift southern African travel restrictions

The United States will lift restrictions on travel to countries in southern Africa from December 31st. The measure was put into practice last month because of the Ômicron variant, but was rethought after the predominance of cases of the new strain in the country.
