STF decision must be dealt with by the AGU, says Queiroga on vaccine passport

The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, declared this Monday (13) that the situation of unvaccinated Brazilians who cannot enter the country itself, after the decision of Minister Luís Roberto Barroso, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF), for the mandatory presentation of the passport of the vaccine against Covid-19, it must be dealt with by the Attorney General of the Union (AGU).

“This issue, as I said, is up to the Federal Attorney General. These are decisions that are being discussed in the STF, which is the Brazilian Supreme Court. I am sure that we are going to reach a common denominator in the interests of all Brazilians”, said queiroga.

Only those dispensed for medical reasons or those who come from a country where there is proven no vaccine available or for exceptional humanitarian reasons will be exempt from presenting the vaccine passport.

The Civil House stated that the ordinance with the rules of the measure will not be published this Monday, as expected. Anvisa, in turn, notified all border posts, especially airports, for immediate compliance with the STF order.

“The decision had immediate effect, without a deadline for adaptation, and, therefore, requires the Agency to carry out specific assessments, especially in relation to passengers who were already moving or in transit at the time the decision was issued”, he said to Anvisa.
