Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), determined, this Friday (24), that the Jair Bolsonaro (PL) government explain in five days the requirement of a medical prescription for childhood vaccination against Covid-19.
The decision came within the scope of an action by the Sustainability Network party, which asked the Supreme to determine the Ministry of Health to provide, “immediately and in line with the technical recommendations of Anvisa”, of the immunizing agent for children aged 5 to 11 years, “regardless of medical prescription or any other government-imposed obstacle to the right to health and life.”
The Network went to the Supreme after the Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, affirming, this Thursday (23), that the federal government would require a prescription and signature of a term of responsibility for parents. The requirements do not exist in other groups that have already had their vaccination authorized.
According to the minister, the model that has been adopted in Germany is ideal. There, he said, children with comorbidities recognized by doctors have priority, but it depends on the father’s authorization. “For those without comorbidities, there is a need for a medical prescription”, said the minister in an interview at the ministry’s headquarters. Lewandowski is also the rapporteur of another action proposed by the Workers’ Party.
The acronym asked the Supreme that the Ministry of Health is required to establish a schedule for the distribution of immunizations to children and the inclusion of the age group in the National Immunization Plan (PNI). Last week, the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) approved Pfizer’s immunizing agent for children aged 5 to 11 years.
On Monday (20), Minister Lewandowski accepted an appeal from the Attorney General’s Office (AGU) and extended to January 5 the deadline for the federal government to present information on the vaccination of children.
