The Federal Supreme Court (STF) judges, this Wednesday (20), the criminal action that can condemn federal deputy Daniel Silveira (PTB-RJ). The parliamentarian is accused of having threatened court ministers in videos posted on social media. Watch the trial in the video above.
Silveira was arrested in February 2021 by order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, who ended up authorizing the release of the parliamentarian and establishing precautionary measures in November last year.
On the eve of the trial, this Tuesday (19), Moraes, who is the rapporteur of the case, fined R$10,000 for the congressman’s defense. The amount was determined by the magistrate on the grounds that Silveira’s lawyers filed a series of appeals with the Supreme Court only with the intention of delaying the proceedings.
If convicted, the federal deputy will become ineligible and will not be able to run for a seat in the Senate, an intention that has been signaling in recent months. Silveira arrived at the Supreme Court this Wednesday around 2 pm, accompanied by deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP).
Despite having gone to the door of the STF, the Court rejected the congressman’s request and decided that Silveira will not be able to follow the trial from within the plenary where the ministers will be meeting.
Follow the main moments of the trial
The first to vote will be Minister Alexandre de Moraes, rapporteur of the case. His colleagues await an incisive vote for Silveira’s conviction. Moraes’ vote must be followed by the majority, since the internal assessment is that the STF is united and that the parliamentarian must be condemned.
Lawyer is reluctant to take a Covid test and delays the start of the session
Right at the beginning of the session, the president of the STF, Minister Luiz Fux, justified the delay in the beginning of the session, which was scheduled for 2 pm. According to Fux, Daniel Silveira’s lawyer was reluctant to take a Covid-19 test and reported not having been vaccinated against the disease.
The STF even offered a link so that support could be made by videoconference. Afterwards, the lawyer agreed to undergo the test, which was carried out and had a negative result.
Daniel Silveira returns to Rio
After being prevented from participating in the plenary trial, deputy Daniel Silveira left Congress. He told journalists that he would return to Rio de Janeiro to follow the session.
