Federal Supreme Court (STF) resumes work and the collapse of Marginal Tietê in São Paulo subway works are among the highlights of February 1, 2022.

Resumption of the STF

The Federal Supreme Court (STF) resumed, this Tuesday (1st), the work of the court that had been in recess since December 17. In his opening speech, President Luiz Fux highlighted the important role of science in dealing with the pandemic and said that the STF will prioritize the areas and themes most affected by the health crisis.

Subway collapse at work

An accident in the works of the future line 6-Orange of the São Paulo subway caused a piece of Marginal Tietê, one of the main roads of the capital, to collapse this Tuesday morning (1st). The fire department was called and there were no casualties. The company responsible for the work is investigating what happened, as well as the Metropolitan Transport Department.

Death of Congolese in Rio

The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro received security camera footage to help clarify the murder of 24-year-old Congolese Moïse Kabamgabe. He died on January 24, beaten by a group of four people, when he went to collect his payment at a kiosk in the West zone of Rio de Janeiro.

Violence against activists

A survey carried out by the Igarapé Institute shows that eight out of ten defenders of rights and the environment suffered some form of violence while working in the Brazilian Amazon, in 2021. Moral and physical violence are the most frequent types among the reported cases.
