Minister André Mendonça, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), suspended this Monday (5) the increase in the price of bus tickets in cities located around the Federal District. The readjustment in effect until then reached 25.15%.
“Such a tariff increase, without prior debate or demonstration of the technical-financial criteria adopted to estimate it, unequivocally poses a risk of serious damage to the population of Ride [Região Integrada de Desenvolvimento do Distrito Federal e Entorno] and surroundings, a public vulnerable to abrupt changes in the value of goods and services they depend on daily, as with public passenger transport,” said Mendonça.
The decision responds to a request made by the government of Goiás, which claimed that the readjustment would affect users of the transport service, “which includes people in vulnerable situations and located in peripheral regions”.
With the suspension, the Federal District and the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) were summoned to comply with the decision. ANTT, on the other hand, was summoned to inform, within five working days, if there was consent in the other cities of the Ride.
On Twitter, the governor of the State, Ronaldo Caiado, celebrated the suspension of the tariff increase. “This discussion continues and we will continue to uncompromisingly defend the people of the region,” he tweeted.
THE CNN contacted the government of the Federal District and ANTT. The text will be updated as soon as there is feedback.
