The Fifth Class of Superior Justice Tribunal (STJ) postponed, this Tuesday (21), the trial of an appeal presented by the defenses of the former Minister of the Civil House José Dirceu (PT) and his brother, Luiz Eduardo, against a conviction of the duo in the context of Operation Car Wash .
Minister Ribeiro Dantas, of the STJ, asked for a view, that is, more time to analyze the case, in this Tuesday’s session. The trial was interrupted after Justice Jesuino Rissato, the rapporteur of the case, expressed his opinion that the appeal was admissible, but against the merits of the request made by Dirceu and his brother.
With the request for view, there is no new deadline for the trial to be resumed in the Court.
In the appeal in question, Dirceu and his brother allege that there are omissions and obscurities in the judgment that did not consider an appeal filed against the decision of the rapporteur, Minister Jesuíno Rissato.
In the decision, the minister rejected the statute of limitations and maintained the conviction within the scope of the Lava Jato operation for passive corruption and money laundering (30th phase of the operation, called Vice). Dirceu is accused of having received bribes totaling R$ 2.1 million to act on behalf of the company Apolo Tubulars in a contract with Petrobras for the supply of tubes between 2008 and 2012.
