STJ resumes trial of action that could lead Robinho to serve time in Brazil

The Superior Court of Justice (STJ) resumes, this Wednesday (16), the analysis of the process in which former player Robinho was sentenced to nine years in prison in Italy, for rape.

The Special Court of the STJ, formed by the 15 most senior justices, will evaluate a request from Robinho’s defense for the Italian government to provide a full and translated version of the process.

The former player’s defense has argued that the documents provided so far are insufficient for the approval of a foreign decision to occur – a process for sentences produced abroad to have effect in Brazil. The STJ will assess whether the Italian decision meets the requirements to be fulfilled in Brazil.

The process is being reported by Minister Francisco Falcão, who has already denied a previous appeal by the defense for the Italian Justice to send a full copy, in addition to a translated version of the process.

As Brazil does not extradite citizens of the country, the Italian Justice asked for the ratification of its decision, so that Robinho serves his sentence in Brazil.
