The “perfect storm” that hit the international markets in the first half of the year did not leave the Greek stock market unaffected either.
But the rate of decline of the General Price Index was smaller compared to the largest international stock markets. The General Index closed the first half down 9.28%, when the benchmark S&P – 500 fell 20.58% year-to-date, in its worst first half since 1970, the Dow Jones fell 15.31%, the Nasdaq by 29.51%, the DAX-30 fell by 19.52% and the CAC-40 by 17.20%.
The main stock market index closed the first half with a fall of 9.28% at 810.42 points, while a few days before the start of the war it recorded the highest price at 971.09 points before retreating to a low of 789.66 points in first days of March.
The total market capitalization fell by €7.096 billion in the first half of 2022.
The high capitalization stocks that went against the flow and stood out in the first half were the shares of Ellactor, Motor Oil, Terna Energy, Jumbo and OPAP, while the stocks of PPC, Quest Participations and Coca Cola HBC.
The large-cap index closed down 9.60%, the mid-cap index fell 14.47%, while the banking index fell 13.42%.

The biggest increase, in the first half of 2022, was recorded by the shares: Yalco (+130.00%), Mathios Pyrimaha (+61.29%), European Credit (+51.00%), Trastor (+39.66%) ), Ellaktor (+32.26%), Motor Oil (+28.36%), Terna Energy (+26.36%), Euroxx (+21.80%), Mevaco (+20.00%) and Varvaresos (+12.88%).
On the contrary, the biggest fall was recorded by the shares: SATO (-55.56%), Plastics Thrace (-50.65%), Varvaresos (-50.43%), Epilectos (-48.00%), Attica Bank (- 47.76%), Frigoglass (-44.32%), PPC (-44.15%), Kecrops (-42.49%), Sarandopoulos Mills (-41.42%) and Medicon (-41.39%) ).
From the high capitalization, in the first half of 2022, the shares of Ellactor (+32.26%), Motor Oil (+28.36%), Terna Energy (+26.36%), Jumbo (+ 10.00%), OPAP (+9.46%), OTE (+1.94%) and ELPE (+0.80%).
On the contrary, the biggest losses, in the first half of 2022, were recorded by the shares of PPC (-44.15%), Quest Participations (-31.16%), Coca Cola HBC (-31.10%), Elvalhalcor ( -28.65%), Piraeus (-27.13%), Viohalco (-27.02%), Sarantis (-25.84%), ADMIE (-22.90%), Alpha Bank (-22.75%), of Lamda Development (-18.90%), of Titan (-15.99%), of PPA (-11.03%), of EYDAP (-8.45%), of Mytileneos (-7.47%) of Eurobank (-5.41%), Ethniki (-3.72%), GEK TERNA (-2.21%) and Aegean Airlines (-1.14%).
The performance of stocks in June
The biggest increase in June was recorded by the following shares: Mathios Pyrimaha +23.08%, Vogiatzoglou Systems +12.63%, Byte Computer +10.54%, Intralot +9.00%, Intrakat +8.84%, Mevaco + 8.40%, Motor Oil +7.82%, Nypaktos Spinning Machines +7.76%, Chaidemenos +7.55% and Mouzakis +5.35%.
The largest decline in June was recorded by the shares: Xylemporia -53.08%, SATO -33.33%, KREKA -26.67%, ANEK-25.93%, Ilyda -25.11%, Progressive -23.47 %, Unibios -21.97%, Thrace Plastics -21.11%, Yalco -20.69% and Piraeus -20.34%.
Among the high capitalization stocks, in June, Motor Oil +7.82%, Coca Cola HBC +2.31%, Ellaktor +1.42% and EYDAP +0.70% closed with a rise.
On the contrary, the biggest losses were recorded by the shares: Piraeus -20.34%, National -20.32%, Eurobank -19.12%, Elvalhalcor -19.02%, ADMIE -18.33%, Mytileneos -15.66% , Alpha Bank -15.53%, Viohalco -14.76%, PPC -14.22%, Quest Holdings -14.17%, Lamda Development -12.09% and Jumbo -10.29%.
