Sweden has announced that it will provide almost five million euros to Kiev over three years to support economic growth, dialogue and overall resilience in southern and eastern Ukraine.
The money will be donated to the Cooperation Fund for Durability of Ukraine, set up by the United Kingdom, Switzerland and the United States.
“The fund will help strengthen Ukraine’s resilience. It will be able to respond quickly and flexibly to the needs that have arisen as a result of Russian aggression since 2014,” Swedish Foreign Minister Anne Linde said in a statement.
This amount will be added to the more than 23 million euros that Ukraine receives annually for the reform of civil society.
Tensions between Russia and Ukraine are escalating, with Moscow deploying more than 100,000 troops to the border with Ukraine.
Western countries have expressed fears that Moscow is planning an invasion.
