Stoltenberg for Ukraine: The worst is yet to come

Russia is using cluster bombs in Ukraine, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Friday, Reuters reported.

“We have seen the use of cluster munitions and we have seen reports of the use of other types of weapons violating international law,” he told reporters in Brussels.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has said that the war in Ukraine will cause more deaths and destruction in the coming days, calling on Russian President Vladimir Putin to withdraw all troops from Ukraine unconditionally.

“The next few days are likely to be worse, with more deaths, more misery and more disaster,” Stoltenberg told reporters after a meeting of the alliance’s foreign ministers in Brussels.

The NATO chief said on Friday that the alliance would not establish a no-fly zone over Ukraine or send troops there, but promised further assistance to Kyiv and called on President Vladimir Putin to immediately end the Russian invasion.

“This is the war that President Putin has chosen, planned and is waging against a peaceful country. We call on President Putin to immediately end this war, withdraw all his forces unconditionally and engage in real diplomacy now,” he said. Jens Stoltenberg.

After a meeting of NATO foreign ministers, Stoltenberg also said: “The allies agree that we should not have NATO planes operating on Ukrainian airspace or NATO troops on Ukrainian territory.” He said Russia was “horrible” in Ukraine.

“At the same time, we, as NATO allies, have a responsibility to prevent this war from escalating beyond Ukraine, because that would be even more dangerous, more destructive and would cause even more human suffering.”
