THE NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said today that he is to travel to Turkey “in the near future” to try to remove the last hurdles to Sweden’s entry into the Alliance.
“I spoke with (Turkish) President Erdogan at the beginning of the week and I will go to Ankara in the near future” in order to “get Sweden to join the Alliance as soon as possible,” Stoltenberg said from Oslo, where the two-day ministerial meeting is being held. Foreign Affairs of NATO.
Besides, Stoltenberg emphasized that Russia cannot veto Ukraine’s entry into the Alliance.
“All allies agree that Moscow does not have a veto on NATO enlargement,” he told reporters. “We are moving forward, the allies agree that Ukraine will become a member,” he added.
