NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has been in contact with French President Emmanuel Macron about “the massive deployment of Russian troops in and around Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said in a Twitter post.
“I applaud his personal commitment to NATO’s dual approach to deterrence / defense and dialogue. NATO unity is key at this critical juncture,” he added.
Contact with Ursula von der Layen
The Russia-Ukraine issue was at the heart of the NATO Secretary General’s communication with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, with Mr Stoltenberg noting that “it is important to maintain close coordination between NATO and the EU on next steps, including possible sanctions “.
